The Inquisitr featured some early coverage, and there’s sure to be more to come.

Nationen! blog Selects WordPress MU

The team at Incsub has written-in to let us know about a very exciting launch of Nationen! blog.

Nationen! blog is a WordPress MU (WPMU) powered site developed by Incsub in collaboration with Søren Pedersen of Ekstra Bladet, the largest Danish site on the web with more than 1.5 MM unique visitors weekly!

The installation integrates single sign-ons (SSO) with existing Ekstra Bladet accounts, provides CMS features for the front page and has built into it a range of powerful community features including internal private messaging email features, friend features, comprehensive internal statistics integration and a fair bit more:

Global tag clouds are also created from across the site and the posts displayed on tag and category portals on the front page:

In order to integrate more fully with the newspaper the front page also includes listings of latest videos from the online site nationen.tv as well as full MSS integration, with latest photos taken and sent in by mobile phone being displayed on the front page alongside latest comments, posts and popular content which can also be seen here: http://q.nationenblog.dk/

While the site has only been launched in beta for a month – it already sports over 300 blogs and is a great example of how a major media organization can use WordPress MU to set up their own blog network while keeping a tight integration with their existing site.

You can read more about this project over on incsub.com/nationenblog.

MyBabyOurBaby Powered by WordPress MU and bbPress

MyBabyOurBaby.com is a really impressive site built with WordPress MU and bbPress. The site’s focus is on “saving memories you didn’t even know about” in a very scrapbook-like fashion:

Sure, plenty of other sites allow parents to create online scrapbooks and keepsake photo albums, but no other site makes it easier for busy parents to collect and organize memories from invited family members and friends.

In a post on the WordPress MU forums, co-founder Beau Lebens talks about what it took to build the site and future plans to release some of the custom plugins:

Hi all, I wanted to throw up the site I’ve been working on for a while which uses WPMU as it’s core. It’s *heavily* modified, but there are *no* core hacks (which I’ve quite proud of).

Not modifying/hacking the core means the upgrade path to new versions of WordPress will be a smooth one, and functionality can be shared across different areas of the site.

Beau adds that:

We’ve also got some forums which are powered by bbPress, and that’s completely integrated including avatars, profiles, etc.

In the coming weeks they also hope to give back to the WordPress community:

I’m hoping to release a number of plugins based on the customizations and things that we did for the site, so I’ll be sure to post info on those in the forums here once I get them out.

To learn more, be sure to check out the excellent tour with video screencasts, and read the latest on their blog.

Metblogs Now Powered by WordPress MU

Matt blogged today about the very innovative and fast growing Metblogs. The site and the Metblogs cities were previously running one of the largest installations of Moveable Type and are now all powered by WordPress MU.

metblogs_screen.jpg

What is Metblogs ?

Metroblogging started off as a more locally focused alternative news source in Los Angeles and has turned into the largest and fastest growing network of city-specific blogs on the Web…

This idea didn’t stay in one city for long and before we knew it there were Metblogs in Chicago, Portland, Karachi, and Vienna. Today there are over 50 Metblogs in countries all over the world. Local politics, event reviews, lunch recommendations and ways to avoid that big traffic jam downtown. If it’s happening in our cities, we’re on it.
